denise and robert

Denise rang me a few months ago after a copy of a photo I had taken of her and Robert at a friends wedding. They needed it for an engagement notice! Wow!!

Robert and Denise decided to elope and on their return organized a fantastic party so all their friends and relatives could join in the celebration.

We shot these photos before the party began.

mini portrait sessions

Last week I visited one of our local preschools to take some school photos and hold portrait sessions for some of the children. It was a lot of fun and really enjoyable to see and capture each child’s individual personality. I can’t show you the photos as I don’t have model releases for my little models.

But I can share this one of my niece who attends the preschool:

Every now and again I set myself mini challenges so I keep on improving in my photography. A few months ago it was lens flare, this next few months it will be depth of field. I’m loving my creamy background in this shot, even if I do say so myself!!!

it didn’t rain!!

After writing Saturdays blog entry about Susan and Tony, I went out to Bi-Lo and stocked up on all the rainy day essentials I need to shoot on a wet wedding day-large ziplock bags, strong garbage bags, freezer bags, rubber bands and a roll of cling wrap. Plus I bought another umbrella just in case (I have back up cameras, why not a back up umbrella?). I was super duper prepared!

Look at the weather conditions I was forced to work under:

Weddings days bring their own magic, in more ways than one!

This is only a sneak preview of Susan and Tonys photos. After I edit the odd thousand others I have taken I’ll be posting some more!!

wave hill

This weekend I am going away. I can’t wait. I am heading out to Wave Hill Station to stay with my friend Jess and her boyfriend Angus.

Wave Hill Station lies in one of my most favouritest areas of the world. It’s located about 50 minutes drive west of Grafton, out near Fineflower on the Clarence River. Once you get out there it’s beautiful, quiet, peaceful and mobile phones don’t work!

I am looking forward to some great company, good food, cool drinks, fun times and laughter.

It will also be great to get out with my cameras and take some photos just becuase I want to and I can! Next week I am sure to have heaps of photos to share with you.

Here is a sneak preview of Dingo Dam Cottage taken by Jess (I stole this image from her website):wave-hill1.jpg

the tree is up!

After a big day at Susan and Tony’s wedding on Saturday, I was a bit tired on Sunday so the kids and I chilled out for the day, put up the Christmas tree and hung a few lights!

Putting the puzzle (oops, I mean tree!) together:

susan and tony

Today is Susan and Tony’s wedding day, and my last wedding for 2007!

We are in for some interesting weather as it is raining, is forecast to continue raining and we are expecting a few afternoon storms thrown in for good measure. Should provide for some sensational photographic opportunities. The light that shines through after a storm is absolutely delicious!

Susan and Tony, if you are reading this (being the loyal blog stalkers that you are!) have a fabulous day and I am really looking forward to sharing it with you.

isabelle

Last week I was lucky enough to photograph a very special newborn, only 15 days old. She is sooo sweet. We captured these precious images in my studio.

Naturally, I just couldn’t make a decision on what to blog, so I thought, why not blog all my faves!

Meet Isabelle:

Oh, what a feeling!

This post is about my friend and fellow photographer Jess.

When I arrived at work this morning I was looking to see if Jess had arrived before me. I couldn’t see her little RM Williams mobile (Ford Laser) anywhere! Oh well, I thought, she must be behind me.

Then, lo and behold she appears out of nowhere, sporting a grin from ear to ear.

Jess has some new wheels!! Woo hoo!! A great little Toyota Rav 4. I was just soo excited for her!

Jumping on in:

Behind the wheel:

How can we not do this?

I made Jess do this a whole stack of times even though I nailed the shot first time!! Between me trying to demonstrate and Jess not liking jumping, it was just abit funny!

stacey

Photoshoots like Stacey’s remind me why I enjoy my job so much. Stacey’s mum came along for the shoot and we just had a ton of laughs!

There were sooo many great shots it was really hard to decide what to blog. I’ve narrowed it down to 17!

We started in the studio:

Then we headed out of the studio and boarded a fishing trawler:

the joy is in the journey

There was an amazing sunrise this morning, but I couldn’t grab a photo of it because all my gear is ready for a wedding I have this afternoon. It was beautiful to see and an experience to remember. All these experiences make us who we are today.

The truth being this: The joy is in the journey. In fact, the destination is often an allusion, a mirage. The joy in the journey IS the destination…it’s all there ever was.

I have passion for what I do, and I do not want any business model/system or mentality to restrict that fluidity that passion requires. I do not see my photography as a business but as an art…and art is entirely more equipped to pursue passion on a whim than business is. I’m looking forward to what the next 12 months has in store for me and my photography. In the meantime, here’s a photograph that I’m passionate about and a girl who is just about to start her own journey (check back tomorrow to see some amazing shots of Stacey).

Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it!
